Passenger train passes through DB Lightgate — DB Lightgate measures occupancy precisely and in real time!
This award-winning innovation from the Hamburg S-Bahn was to be presented with a detailed exhibit at the UITP Summit 2025 in Hamburg. Specifically, the aim was to demonstrate the sensors and components that make up DB Lightgate, how the Lightgate technology works and the benefits of using DB Lightgate for passenger guidance and operations control. The exhibit has already created an excellent basis for showing and explaining the components of DB Lightgate. But how can the technology and benefits be presented even more clearly?
Get trains moving virtually and visualize technology and benefits clearly — with an intuitive augmented reality app.
At the UITP Summit in Hamburg, it became clear that the AR app is ideally suited to explaining Lightgate technology and its benefits for passenger guidance and operational control to visitors in detail. Lightgate technology can be used universally for passenger trains with opposite window surfaces — a special feature of DB Lightgate compared to other, traditional systems. In the AR app, for example, this was illustrated by different passenger trains passing through DB Lightgate while the real-time measurement was visualized on the iPad screen. In order to achieve greater attention, concentration and emotional involvement of the visitors, they were cognitively challenged in the AR app through active decisions and assessments. In two scenarios, they had to make decisions regarding passenger routing and operational control. This also generated a lot of conversation at the stand.
